The Complete Second Series

After complaints over the lack of bonus features and the overly-large box for the previous series, fandom was presented with a box with even less bonuses and (if one purchased via Amazon) a very unwieldy Cyberman head design (see left).

The release pattern followed the previous year's in all but one important way - the PSP UMD releases were dropped. Other than this, fandom received the same treatment as in 2005: Vanilla DVDs throughout the year followed by a complete set for Christmas.

DVD Releases - Vanilla [UK only - released by 2Entertain]

01/05/2006: Series 2, Volume 1 (The Christmas Invasion, New Earth)
05/06/2006: Series 2, Volume 2 (Tooth and Claw, School Reunion, The Girl in the Fireplace)
10/07/2006: Series 3, Volume 3 (Rise of the Cybermen, The Age of Steel, The Idiot's Lantern)
07/08/2006: Series 3, Volume 4 (The Impossible Planet, The Satan Pit, Love and Monsters)
25/09/2007: Series 3, Volume 5 (Fear Her, Army of Ghosts, Doomsday)

These episodes were all as-broadcast, right down to the sound mix (the series was mixed in 5.1, but downmixed for transmission to 2.0, as they appear here).

Volume 3 was released with an exclusive Abzorbaloff Top Trumps card at Amazon UK.

Covers designed by Peacock Design, with TARDIS 3D model (and Guenivere for Vol 1) by themindrobber. An early design for vol 1 was darker and contained a circuitboard motif (see right), and the Doctor/Rose image on the cover of vol 3 is from New Earth, but with the costumes digitally altered.

DVD Releases - Box-Set

20/11/2006: UK - 2Entertain - BBCDVD2122
06/12/2006: Aus/NZ - Roadshow Entertainment Ltd - Cat# Unknown [Not pictured, but identical art to UK]
16/01/2007: US - Warner Home Video - Cat# Unknown

Amazon had an exclusive Cyberhead tin, with two lenticular postcards contained within, based on the lenticular artwork of the standard case and also designed by themindrobber. The plastic slipcover also differed slightly - the reverse side, rather than being blank, had a Cyberman on it (with no lenticular Dalek/Cyberman art behind it).

The episode breakdown was the same as that of the vanilla versions, with one extra disc added for the main bonus features.

Although the UK and US sets look identical, the US set's slipcover lists the episodes and bonus features on the back.
